FAQs

  • Individuals must be 22 years of age or younger at 12:01 AM on April 1 of any given year to be eligible.

Typically, our membership is made up of students 18-22. Still, we encourage students of all experience levels to participate in our audition process! The knowledge and confidence gained from attending an audition is extremely beneficial and can help you understand the level of excellence expected of members in a world class ensemble.

Students who are currently enrolled at a school with an existing competitive percussion program will not be granted a contract. Any exceptions are handled on a case-by-case basis and will require written consent from the student’s scholastic program or percussion director.

  • There is a one-time audition fee of $90.

2026 membership dues will be between $2,000–$2,300. These dues cover implements, equipment, costumes, props, instruction, design, rehearsal facilities, housing during travel, and administrative expenses such as insurance and circuit registration fees.

Expenses not included in membership dues are member jerseys and jackets. When offered a contract, a $500 deposit is required to secure your position in the ensemble.

  • We strongly encourage everyone to attend the audition dates in person. In special cases—such as performers from out of state who would like to be considered for a spot—a video audition may be approved on a case-by-case basis.

If we are interested in seeing you further at a live audition, an invite will be issued. Please note that contracts will not be offered via a video only. Contracts will only be offered via a live audition date.

If you are interested in this option, please email director@performredline.org

  • Yes! You are more than welcome to attend either of the first two audition dates just to experience what it’s like to be a member of Redline. If your goal is simply to learn and you would not like to be considered for a spot within the ensemble, just let an instructor know when you arrive.

  • VE auditions will be held on Sunday, October 19th from 11:30am-6:30pm. Please wear form-fitting, athletic attire and footwear. The day will include warm-ups, marching and dance movement across the floor, and learning choreography to evaluate your technique, performance quality, and ability to pick up material quickly. No prior color guard or dance experience is required, but confidence, body control, and a team-oriented mindset are essential.

Want to Prepare Ahead of Time?

Practice basics like fundamental marching exercises included here as well as dance fundaments. Movement conditioning like stretching, strength training, and core work will boost your confidence and execution come audition time.

Bring a water bottle and lunch if you would like to avoid going out during the lunch break.

  • Yes! We strongly encourage our members to participate in DCI. We only ask that individuals make wise choices about the number of auditions they plan to attend. This helps to limit the amount of missed rehearsal time with Redline.

This is always handled on a case-by-case basis, and again, communication is key!

As a general rule of thumb, you should aim to miss no more than one Redline rehearsal weekend per month for a drum corps camp. You should never plan to attend a drum corps camp that conflicts with a performance, regardless of whether it is a local show or a WGI regional.

  • Download the audition packet for your instrument and take time to learn and retain the material. Confidence goes a long way—and confidence comes from repetition and preparation—so the more familiar you are with the exercises, the better you’ll be able to showcase your abilities.

Battery members should also expect a visual element at each of the audition dates. Any physical preparation you do prior to auditions—flexibility, conditioning, and strength training—will enhance your ability to perform movement concepts with confidence.

You can also attend our audition prep sessions and join our Discord server to connect with other auditionees and ask our staff any questions you have while preparing for the audition.
