Choreographer
Redline is seeking Choreographers to create and support the movement vocabulary of Redline’s production, including body responsibilities, gesture, dance, character movement, transitions, and performer physicality. This role helps ensure the ensemble’s movement language supports the show concept, music, visual design, staging, and competitive goals.
Because choreography must be taught, clarified, and refined in real time, Redline prefers a Choreographer who is based in Michigan or the Midwest and can attend rehearsals regularly. If the Choreographer is remote, they must maintain extensive communication with the design team, Visual Caption Head, and visual staff to support implementation, teaching, cleaning, and revision of choreography throughout the season.
Summary of Tasks:
Create choreography, movement vocabulary, body responsibilities, and gesture work for the production
Align movement with the show concept, music, staging, visual identity, and effect goals
Collaborate with the Drill Designer and Visual Designer on staging, transitions, and performer responsibilities
Coordinate closely with the Visual Caption Head and visual staff on implementation, teaching, cleaning, and revision
Provide choreography notes, videos, counts, references, and updates in a timely manner
Attend weekly evening design meetings and communicate outside of scheduled meetings as needed
Attend rehearsals regularly when local or regional, with remote arrangements requiring additional communication and support
Be present with the group during WGI Finals week unless prior conflicts are discussed and approved
Qualifications/Desired Traits:
Demonstrated commitment to Redline’s mission, values, and organizational success
Strong understanding of WGI Percussion movement design, body responsibilities, staging, pacing, effect, clarity, and achievement
Prior DCI, WGI, marching band, indoor percussion, indoor winds, color guard, dance, theater, movement, or pageantry design experience required
One or more years of DCI/WGI choreography or movement design experience preferred
Michigan or Midwest-based availability preferred
Portfolio, video examples, show examples, design credits, or prior creative work available when possible
Ability to create movement for battery, front ensemble, visual ensemble, props, set pieces, and mixed staging responsibilities
Ability to attend rehearsals regularly when local or regional
Ability to provide extensive communication, video support, notes, and follow-up with the design team and visual staff if working remotely
Ability to collaborate professionally with the Artistic Director, Visual Designer, Drill Designer, Visual Caption Head, visual staff, Program Coordinator, arrangers, and education staffAbility to attend weekly evening design meetings and communicate outside of scheduled meetings as needed
Ability to be present with the group during WGI Finals week unless prior conflicts are discussed and approved
Access to phone, email, computer, reliable internet, and tools needed to create, record, review, or share choreography materials
